Never have I ever: dyed a white shirt blue? ????
You know when you buy a new outfit or something snazzy for work or an important event, and then you accidentally dye it a different color in the wash? Yup, we can’t tell you how many times we’ve done this in our personal lives ???? Well, we want to help before you dye something else (we gotta stick together, right?!) If you want to make your clothes last longer and keep their vibrant colors intact, we’ve got you covered with three powerful tips to extend the lifespan of your beloved garments!
Here are our top 3 tips for preserving colors and fabrics:
Embrace the cool side.
Wash in cold water, which keeps fibers closed, trapping dye inside. Warm water opens fibers and sets the dye free. (BONUS: If you are going to wash at a warmer temperature, make sure you have separated your light items from dark items, so if the dye does run from darker items it doesn’t ruin your lighter items)
Inside out.
Washing and drying can be tough on dyes. Especially when you are air-drying in the sun make sure to pop your clothes inside out as the UV rays can slowly knock the color right out (over time)!
Adding Vinegar to your wash (we know, stay with us though ????):
Did you know vinegar acts as a fabric softener? Not just that but it also helps lock ???? in those colors. By adding just a cup of vinegar to your wash (especially to new clothes) you can reduce the risk of those dyes running right out! (Don’t worry about smelling like a fish and chip shop — the vinegary smell washes out!)
There you have it, folks! You now know how to keep your wardrobe bright, colorful, and cheerful! Are you going to give the tips a go this week? If you’re saying, “No hampr, I barely have time for laundry!” then we can help you with that too…
