Well, here we are – it’s May and already my children’s school has lost their dang minds. Why in the world are we putting ALL THE ACTIVITIES in the very final month of school? I have lost track of the theme days and parties. I feel like it’s a part-time job – and the worst part is that I knew it was coming.
But it’s ok. Because…
Taylor Swift dropped a DOUBLE ANTHOLOGY in late April so all is right with the world. I am one of those Swifties who hasn’t really experienced heartbreak the way Dr. Taylor Allison Swift has. I met my husband in college and we married early and fortunately continued to grow in the same direction. One of my best friends calls us The Symbiotic Creature – we have been together so long that we speak our own language and when one of us starts a task, the other effortlessly and quietly finishes it as part of a dance that only people who have been together this long can do.
And yet.
I still feel the soul-splitting agony of The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived and loml.
Wait – this isn’t a company dedicated to Taylor Swift Fandom. Or is it?

Things That are Making My Life:
Well. Do I need to answer this? It’s obviously The Tortured Poets Department. I was working on our board deck last night, on what was probably the eleventh rotation of this album and I had to just sit back for a moment as Mother sang, “And in plain sight you hid // But you are what you did // And I’ll forget you, but I’ll never forgive // The smallest man who ever lived.”
Chills, I tell you. Chills.
Ok, Taylor Swift aside, I’m also thoroughly enjoying a from-the-beginning watch of Summer House on Bravo in the hour-long bite of time between kids going to bed and my own bedtime. It’s a great “brain off” show of drama adjacency with a hint of summer vibes.
What I’m Looking Forward to:
I don’t often look forward to Mother’s Day – usually it’s a lot of coordinating with family and high expectations that I don’t even fully understand and then never really articulate. BUT – this year, I think I’ve cracked the code.
I’m not planning anything. AND I’m not expecting anything – except a new coffeemaker.
OK, well, I’m also not going to do laundry. I am going to have coffee from my new coffeemaker and binge-watch Summer House OR rewatch The Summer I Turned Pretty in my jammies.
